The 4th of July is one of the most important historical events in the US, and it is celebrated by American people and institutions worldwide. Annually, the American Chamber of Commerce in Albania organizes the Independence Day celebration, an enormous event with over 750 guests invited at “Wilson” high school in Tirana.

Like previous years, the YES Alumni were invited to participate in this event not only as guests but also as their partners in this event.  Since the 4th of July is an American celebration we wanted to give the guests the American taste therefore we ordered American desserts such as: brownies, apple pies, cupcakes and donuts; desserts not well-known by the Albanians citizens. The American Chamber staff provided us with two tables, where we put all the desserts on it for the guests to take away. A banner with the logos of American Councils, US State Department and YES program was hanging in between two tables

The American Chamber of Commerce also provided us with two boxes of cherries, two boxes of bananas and two other boxes filled with apples and peaches. Along with the desserts, alumni handed out fruits as well. While, they were handing out the fruits and desserts to guests, they took few minutes to talk briefly about the YES program, who can apply and if the guests were interested, they could check the webpage provided on the bottom side of the banner.

This event started around 6 o’clock and the honorary US Ambassador Mr. Alexander Arvizu gave his opening remarks along with the American Chamber of Commerce director. Afterwards, the Ambassador visited all the booths of all the partners participating. We had the pleasure to welcome him in our booth and speak with him for a small period of time. Meanwhile, the alumni introduced themselves and we were honored to receive positive comments from the Ambassador about the organization.

This activity provides entertainment spaces for all ages. Kids had their own playground area, where presents were handed out to them; their faces got painted by professionals, they played soccer as well as did the water balloon fight. On the other hand, the adults were sitting at the tables, enjoying the music, food and afterwards the spectacular fireworks.

This annual activity is full of entertainment, joy and amazing times to be spent with your family and friends.
