By Olta Myslimi, Alumni Coordinator for Albania
In September, and number of YES Albania alumni took to the radio to tell the country about their experiences on YES. In addition to talking about the education system, American life, the social and extracurricular activities we participated in, what kind of activities the alumni get involved after they come back from the States, and some of the cultural differences we faced throughout the year, we made sure everyone knew how we got on the program and when, where, and how they can apply too. Our alumni had fun sharing their American stories with the audience because it brought back so many wonderful memories from our year abroad.
Alumni also took the time to meet with youth all around the country in person. We spoke on two different occasions at the American Corner in Tirana, sharing our stories with high school local students and introduced what the YES program is and what it entails. After making an introduction about the program, we spent a long time answering students’ questions.
While some of us stayed in Tirana, others traveled to other parts of the country. In Pogradec city we gave presentations in 64 classes 10th and 11th grade classes and directed interested students to check out our alumni activities on Facebook and to contact the American Councils office in Tirana if they had more questions on the program and how to apply.
Keep up with all YES Albania alumni events by checking in with them on Facebook!
