It’s nice to hear when our program alumni stay in touch with their host families and when they reunite. Alexandra Karppi, Balkan Language Initiative alumna, while spending part of her academic year in Budapest, Hungary, decided to visit her host family in Belgrade this spring. Alexandra Karppi met with her host family back in 2017, when she participated in American Councils program for studying Serbian language and culture.
Alexandra’s host wrote this: “We spent the first day of their visit in my home, with my granddaughters. It was a lovely afternoon and a real joy to listen to young people’s talks and to eat crepes, which my home is famous for. The next day, we met in the city, walked around and went to a lunch at my older granddaughter’s place. We walked them to the bus station and they left for Budapest. We heard from Alexandra that she plans to revisit us in August, with her brother. I can’t wait to see her again”.
