YES Bulgaria alumni (back row, left to right) Peter Ivanov, ’13, Toma Pavlov, ’12, and Gabriella Veleva, ’11, served as Alumni Panel Members at the PDO in Macedonia.

On July 8 four generations of YES students met in Sofia, Bulgaria, prior to the Pre-Departure Orientation in Macedonia. The three alumni students: Gabriella Veleva ’11, Toma Pavlov ’12 and Peter Ivanov ‘13 met with the current YES students who are preparing for their exciting year in the United States. They had the opportunity to hear some valuable advice and ask questions about what to expect when they arrive in the U.S.

From the perspective of an alumnus, it was a great feeling to meet with the new generation of students, to recall your experience in America and help them to adapt faster in the new surroundings that awaits them in the USA. Together, we discussed the important mission that an exchange student has as an ambassador of his/her home country, as well as, the role of the alumni students for improving their local community.
