Why everyone should apply and what was most challenging for me during the YES competition

By Zhanita Hristova, YES Bulgaria ’19

“Right now, being a finalist, my goal which I worked for hard is finally reached . However, I still remember the time around one year ago when I was still unsure and being a finalist on YES seemed to me as a dream that was too big to exist even in my imagination.  However, as I kept thinking about it, I came to the conclusion that I would lose nothing if I try and maybe it would sound like a cliche but I really believed in myself and set up my goal.

Once I had made my decision that I want to be a part of YES, I told myself that I would do my best for everything that depended on me to be chosen and I did.

It may sound easy but there were also hard moments which occurred while I was trying to do my best. For example, I didn’t have my parents to help me with the process at all. There were times when I was struggling with the documentation for the program and school at the same time but I kept telling myself that good things do not come easily and after all the hardships I would be rewarded.

The applying process may not be the most relaxing and easy thing you will face, but it would be totally worth it at the end when you receive the email announcing that you are a finalist! Also, never doubt yourself if you are good enough to be chosen! You never know what the program is looking for so you are not the one to judge yourself! Go on and apply, you can never know what could have happened if you miss your opportunity now!”
